Why We Created a Whole New Candle Range - and What Makes It Different
Behind the Scenes, Made with Essentials
One of the best things about selling at markets is the conversations you end up having.
People pick things up, smell them, ask questions. You get an honest, unfiltered view of what people actually want - far better than anything you'd get from a survey or a spreadsheet. And over time, if you pay attention, patterns start to emerge.
For us, one question kept coming up again and again.
"Do you do anything with essential oils?"
Not because people weren't buying our candles. They were, but some customers wanted something made entirely from natural, plant-derived oils - a different kind of fragrance experience alongside the scented candles they already loved. Some had sensitive noses. Some simply preferred the idea of something more natural. Some were just curious.
We heard it often enough that we knew it was worth exploring.
Introducing ‘Made with Essentials’
The result is our Made with Essentials range - three hand-poured candles, each made entirely with essential oils. Same care and craft as everything else we make, just a very different kind of fragrance.
Essential oil candles smell distinct from fragrance candles. They're softer, more subtle, and more natural in character. If you're used to bold, room-filling scents, they might take a moment to adjust to. But once you do, there's a quality to them that's hard to describe - less like a product, more like something that just belongs in a room.
Each candle in the range has been built around a specific mood, using oils chosen for how they work together and what they bring to a space.
The Three Candles
Clarity Made with juniper berry, eucalyptus, and peppermint. Crisp, clean, and quietly invigorating. This is the one for workspaces, morning routines, or any moment when you need a clear head. The combination of eucalyptus and peppermint brings a bright, fresh quality, while juniper berry adds a subtle woodsy depth that stops it feeling clinical.
Uplifting Made with bergamot, black pepper, and lime. Warm, bright, and genuinely mood-lifting. Bergamot is one of the most beloved oils in aromatherapy for good reason - it has a natural ability to lift the spirits without being sharp or overwhelming. Combined with the zesty brightness of lime and a gentle warmth from black pepper, this one is ideal for mornings, afternoon slumps, or any time you want your home to feel energising rather than heavy.
Relaxing Made with bergamot, lavender, and lemongrass. Calm, soft, and grounding. Lavender is the obvious anchor here - well known for its ability to ease the mind and encourage rest. Lemongrass adds a gentle freshness that keeps it from feeling too heavy, and bergamot ties everything together with a light, citrusy warmth. This is the candle for evenings, bedrooms, and slow Sunday mornings.
The Difference Between Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils
It's worth explaining what makes these candles different at a technical level, because it's a question we get asked a lot.
Fragrance oils - used in our main candle range - are blended specifically to create scent. They're designed to be bold, consistent, and long-lasting, which is why they fill a room so effectively. They're the reason our Highland Waterfall candle smells exactly like Highland Waterfall every single time.
Essential oils are different. They're extracted directly from plants - from the rinds of citrus fruits, the flowers of lavender, the leaves and bark of trees. They carry the natural aromatic compounds of the plant they came from, which means the scent is more complex, more variable, and often more delicate.
In candle form, essential oils produce a gentler scent throw. You notice it when you're near the candle, rather than from across the room. It's a different experience - quieter, more intimate and for many people, that's exactly what they're looking for.
Neither is better. They're just different, and different suits different moments.
Who Are These Candles For?
If you already love our fragrance candle range, the Made with Essentials candles are a natural addition — something to reach for when you want a softer, more natural atmosphere.
If you've always been drawn to essential oils and aromatherapy but haven't found a candle that felt right, these were made with you in mind.
And if you've never really thought about it either way but you're curious, they're worth trying. Start with Uplifting if you want something bright and energising, Relaxing if you want something calm and grounding, or Clarity if you want something clean and focused.
